What are Nasolabial Folds (Nose to Mouth Lines)?

The nasolabial folds (or nose to mouth lines as they are commonly known) are the lines that run from the outside of the nose down to the sides of the mouth. When we smile or laugh, these lines are apparent, hence they are sometimes also called smile or laugh lines. As we age, usually in our late thirties onwards, these lines start to become more noticeable and permanent. This is due to a number of factors including sun damage, the loss of elasticity and collagen in the skin, and diminishment of the fat layer in the cheeks causing the skin to sag. It is at this point that many people start to consider treating these lines. This is the most common area that fillers are used.
